About the Art
Early on during the Wilfred’s Lounge build, Proprietors Nat and John Komes had a vision for a grand mural that would weave together their Honolulu and Napa Valley roots. Working with artist Ken Ruzic, the project was developed and realized over the course of an entire year.
Now a striking, giant 14 x 40-foot mural, including a 10-foot-tall Lono graciously offering an overflowing bowl of luscious fruits, greets our guests — welcoming all to leave everything behind.
In honor of Wilfred’s mischievous spirit, we put a twist on tradition by depicting an authentic Hawaiian Outrigger but with Flora, Wilfred’s sister and our family matriarch and muse, standing proudly at the prow on her journey from Honolulu to Napa as a young woman in the 1920s. Flora is bringing a bounty of grapes as a nod to our family’s winemaking heritage; Flora Springs Winery was established in 1978 in St. Helena, Napa Valley and continues to be family owned and operated today. In the background is an island-inspired take on the historic landmark Napa First Street bridge, illuminated by tiki torches and surrounded by palm trees, lush vegetation, and vineyards, which in real life is just steps from Wilfred’s Lounge.
The mural art, with an added wine bottle backdrop, is the inspiration for our Bottle Outrigger T-Shirt.
